How to Protect Your Ears

How to protect your ears

  1. Use Ear Protection: When exposed to loud noises, such as at concerts, while operating heavy machinery, or during recreational activities like shooting or motorcycling, wear ear protection like earplugs or earmuffs.

  2. Maintain Safe Listening Levels: When using headphones or earbuds, keep the volume at a safe and comfortable level. A good rule of thumb is the “60/60” rule: listen at no more than 60% of the maximum volume for no more than 60 minutes at a time.

  3. Limit Exposure: Reduce your exposure to loud noises whenever possible. If you work in a noisy environment, take regular breaks in quieter spaces to give your ears a rest.

  4. Avoid Inserting Objects: Avoid inserting objects like cotton swabs or hairpins into your ears, as this can push earwax deeper and potentially damage the ear canal.

  5. Protect Your Ears in Water: Use earplugs or custom-made swim molds to protect your ears from water when swimming, especially in polluted or treated water.
